Sisi Garden is an elegant restaurant experience by Zsolnay Café, created to appeal to both local and international - especially Chinese guests. We designed a refined, mobile-first digital experience that translates the restaurant’s distinctive atmosphere into a clear and engaging online presence across Hungarian, English and Chinese.
Challenge
The key challenge was to create a premium experience that works consistently across three languages and very different typographic systems. The Chinese version required particular attention: differences in text density, hierarchy and visual conventions meant that simply translating the European layouts would not have been enough. The design therefore had to remain recognisably Sisi Garden while adapting naturally to different audiences, content structures and cultural expectations.
Our Approach
We started with a mobile-first design approach and built a flexible visual system around the restaurant’s identity. The Hungarian and English experiences established the core structure, while the Chinese version was considered in parallel rather than treated as a later localisation step. We researched relevant Chinese luxury and hospitality conventions and explored typography, content hierarchy and layout specifically for Chinese-language audiences. Subtle micro-interactions, layered graphic elements and carefully considered imagery helped create a sophisticated experience without compromising usability. Throughout the project, we worked closely with the development team to make sure that design decisions, responsive behaviour and interactions could be translated accurately into the final website.
What We Delivered
Mobile-first UX/UI design for four key page types — Home, Menu, Story and Reservation — across desktop and mobile; Hungarian, English and Chinese language adaptations; Chinese typography and layout research; responsive design specifications; micro-animation and interaction concepts; and ongoing developer support during implementation.
Result
The result is a distinctive multilingual restaurant website that combines European elegance with a considered approach to the Chinese audience. A flexible design system allows the brand, content and atmosphere of Sisi Garden to remain consistent across languages and screen sizes, while giving each version enough room to feel natural to its audience.
